At least six civilians have been killed and dozens of others injured in separate mortar attacks launched by foreign-sponsored Takfiri militants against residential areas in Syria’s northwestern province of Idlib as well as the capital, Damascus.

Local sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said six civilians, including a child, lost their lives and 20 others sustained injuries when a barrage of mortar shells fired by the militants struck the villages of Fuaa and Kafraya in Idlib Province on Monday, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.

The sources added that the projectiles also caused substantial damage to several houses at the targeted areas.

A girl was also wounded when a rocket fired by Takfiri terrorists fell on her house in the al-Muhajirin neighborhood of the capital.

The developments came a day after a baby girl was killed and four others injured when militant mortar shells slammed into the Abu Rummaneh neighborhood west of Damascus.

On August 28, eleven people, among them three young girls, were injured when mortar shells struck areas across Damascus.

Separately, 12 people were killed and scores of others injured on August 23, when mortar shells hit an area close to the Damascus Central Prison in the northeastern part of the capital.

Two other civilians also lost their lives in separate militant mortar strikes across Damascus on the same day.

The conflict in Syria, which started in March 2011, has reportedly claimed more than 240,000 lives up until now.

The violence has also forced over four million Syrians to take refuge in neighboring countries, including Jordan and Lebanon. More than 7.2 million others have been displaced within Syria, according to the United Nations.
