One killed, three injured in Stockholm refugee suburb shooting

Swedish police stand guard in the majority-refugee suburb of Rinkeby district, near Stockholm, where at least one person was killed and three others were injured in a shooting, August 30, 2015.

At least one person is killed and 3 others are injured in a shooting incident in a mostly migrant-populated suburb of the Swedish capital, Stockholm.

The shooting took place at a central square in the Rinkeby-Kista borough’s Rinkeby district on Sunday.

Initial reports from Stockholm police said two seriously injured victims were transferred to the hospital, where one died after arrival.

Two others, who were slightly injured were also taken to the hospital.

“We are currently collecting data to get some idea of what has happened,” the Swedish Aftonbladet newspaper quoted Stockholm police as saying.

No individual has yet been detained over the incident.

Witnesses say one of victims was most likely stabbed several times and shot with a gun as well.

According to locals, two alleged offenders fled the area in a car.

Rinkeby is known for being home to a large number of immigrants. According to government statistics, the district had nearly 16,000 residents as of 2012.

The incident in Rinkeby comes as European nations have been witnessing a significant rise in migrant arrivals in recent months, as people mostly from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East are fleeing war and violence in their native countries.
