Zoo in Russia’s St. Petersburg welcomes 2 Japanese Macaque monkeys

A zoo in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg has welcomed its latest guests that happen to be two Japanese Macaque monkeys.

The primates were given as a gift to Leningrad Zoo by the mayor of the Japanese city of Shizu-oka to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the venue. The Macaque will be living in an outdoor enclosure since their natural habitat is the colder northern regions of Japan where snowfall is common. The Leningrad Zoo is the oldest in Russia, which started out as a private collection of animals before it opened to the public in August 1865.
