Number of non-UK born residents in Britain likely to surpass 8 million

Number of non-UK born residents living in Britain exceeding 8 million.

A new report says the number of non-UK born residents living in Britain is likely to surpass 8 million in near future.

According to the Migration Observatory think tank in Oxford University, official figures for 2014 mean that the number of non-UK born residents has increased steadily over the past years.

The think tank said “the latest estimate of net migration – the flow of migrants in and out of the UK – could break the previous record of 320,000 set in 2005, shortly after eight eastern European countries, including Poland, joined the EU.”

According to Office for National Statistics, the figure stood at 7.0 million in 2013. But now an increase in net migration - the flow of migrants in and out of the UK- is likely to have pushed that past 8 million.

As figures by ONS show the figure for non-UK born, non-UK nationals living in UK is 4.9 million.

Now the figures have once again highlighted the recent migration and integration trends in the UK.
