Two US journalists shot dead during live report in Virginia

The incident happened when Alison Parker was talking to a woman.

Two American news journalists have been shot dead during a live television news report in the state of Virginia, according to officials.

Reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward from local CBS news station WDBJ were killed during an interview in Moneta, Bedford County on Wednesday.

Parker was 24 years old and Ward was 27 years old.

About eight gunshots were heard while the reporter and the cameraman were conducting the interview for WDBJ7.

After the shooting, the camera dropped to the ground and the broadcast cut back to the anchor desk.

The video captured an image of what is believed to be the suspected shooter before it cut away.

Parker was interviewing with Vicki Gardner, the local chamber of commerce director, on a balcony. Gardner was also shot and wounded.

Parker was talking to her about tourism development for WDBJ's early morning newscast when the incident happened.

Authorities from Bedford County, Franklin County and Virginia State Police are on the scene of the incident.

The authorities said they continue to look for the shooter. The shooting incident remains under investigation.

Sgt. Ryan Young with the Virginia Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries confirmed they are on the scene searching the shoreline and surrounding areas.

"We do not know the motive. We do not know who the suspect or the killer is," said WDBJ general manager Jeffrey Marks.

He said Parker and Ward were "both in love with other members of the team" at the news station.
