Starting off with football as Spanish side Valencia have progressed to the group stage of the UEFA Champions League despite a 2-1 loss at Monaco in the return leg of their playoff tie.

Meanwhile, Croatia’s Dinamo Zagreb defeated Albanian side Skenderbeu 4-1 to earn a 6-2 aggregate win and make it to the Champions’ League group stages. Swedish side Malmo claimed a 4-3 aggregate win over Celtic after winning the return leg 2-0 and finally Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk qualified for the group stages after a 2-all draw against Austria’s Rapid Wien, winning 3-2 on aggregate.

In Asia, Former AFC Champions League winners Guangzhou Evergrande have defeated their hosts Kashiwa Reysol of Japan 3-1 to remain hopeful of reaching the semi-finals and eventually repeating their title in this year’s competitions.

Spanish rider Alejandro Valverde has held off challenge from Peter Sagan of Slovakia on an uphill finish to clinch victory in the fourth stage of the Vuelta a Espana.

To some sad news now as professional Iranian bodybuilder Baitollah Abbaspour has passed away at the age of 36 in a hospital in the capital Tehran.
