4 people killed in France Roma camp shootout

Three people are killed and four others seriously injured in a shootout at a Roma camp in Roye Commune in the Somme Department in northern France, August 25, 2015.

Four people, including a baby, have been killed in a shootout at a Roma camp in northern France.

The shooting occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Roye Commune, Roye, about 110 kilometers (68 miles) north of Paris, in the Somme Department. The site of the deadly shooting was close to a police station in the area.

Police said Tuesday that a man, a woman and a baby were killed after a gunfight broke out in a gypsy camp in northern France. The three were killed on the spot.

Two policemen were among the injured. One of the officers later died of his wounds.

The attacker himself and another child were also wounded in the incident.

Police would not elaborate on potential cause of the violence in the camp. France's state prosecutor traveled immediately to the site of the shootout.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve described the incident as a "cold-blooded" killing.
