Yemeni forces loyal to the Houthi Ansarullah movement and the allied army units have downed a United Arab Emirates' Apache helicopter in Yemen’s Yasuf region.

The military chopper was downed in the mountainous region of Yasuf on Saturday, local media reports said.

In a similar incident on Friday, a Saudi Apache chopper was targeted by a Yemeni surface-to-air missile. Yemeni forces have used such projectiles over the past few months to retaliate against Saudi Arabia’s all-out air campaign.

Meanwhile, Saudi Interior Ministry confirmed the death of one of its soldiers in a Saturday rocket attack launched by Yemeni forces on the southwestern port city of Jizan, near Yemen border.

Saudi military bases in Jizan have been one of the main targets of Yemeni operations.

Yemeni forces say their attacks are in retaliation for Saudi bombardment of the country and are aimed at pressuring Riyadh to halt air raids.

On March 26, Saudi Arabia began its military aggression against Yemen – without a UN mandate – in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to the fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, an ally of Riyadh.

Over 4,300 people have been killed in the Yemeni conflict, the World Health Organization said on August 11. Local Yemeni sources, however, put the fatality figure much higher.
