JCPOA blocked West bullying, excessive demands: Araqchi
A senior Iranian official says the nuclear negotiations between Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries, which led to an agreement last month, aimed to block the West’s excessive demands and bullying against the Islamic Republic.
The nuclear talks were, in fact, aimed at blocking ways of the West’s infiltration and this trend will continue unchanged, Abbas Araqchi, the deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, told reporters on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 6th General Assembly of the AhlulBayt World Assembly in the capital, Tehran.
“As the Leader of the Islamic Revolution [Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei] said, both in the negotiations and in the agreement itself and also after the agreement all ways of the enemy’s infiltration into the political, economic and cultural sectors [of the country] have been blocked and it will remain so,” Araqchi added.
He said that the very essence of negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program was based on standing up to global hegemony as well as excessive demands and bullying by Western countries which were seeking to deprive the Iranian nation of its nuclear rights.
Araqchi’s remarks came after Ayatollah Khamenei said this week that the Islamic Republic will not allow the US to make inroads into the country.
The Leader said on Monday that the opposite side in nuclear negotiations with Iran was seeking to clinch an agreement with the country to find a way to infiltrate into the Islamic Republic, but Iran did not and will not allow them to achieve their goal.
“We will firmly block their way. We will not allow the US to make economic, political or cultural inroads into the country. We will counter such infiltration with all our power,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 countries – the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany – finalized the text of an agreement, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in the Austrian capital of Vienna.
The JCPOA turned into an international document after the UN Security Council on July 20 unanimously endorsed a resolution under which the International Atomic Energy Agency will continue to verify Iran’s compliance with its nuclear-related commitments under the agreement.
