Iran’s Paykan defeats Cignal HD at Asia volleyball championship

Iranian Paykan Tehran volleyball club has won a third match in a row at the preliminary round of the 2015 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship in Taiwan.

On Saturday, the Tehran-based team defeated Cignal HD from the Philippines in straight sets (25-18, 25-14 and 28-26) in a Pool B match staged at the University of Taipei Hall.

Paykan Tehran’s Reza Safa’ee was the top scorer of the match, with 20 points scored.

The Iranians will return to action n the quarterfinals tomorrow, when they will take aim at the winner of the match later on Saturday between China’s BAIC Motor and Pavlodar VC of Kazakhstan in a Pool D fixture at Taipei Gym.

Paykan volleyball team dominated the South Korean club Armed Forces with a straight-set win (25-17, 25-22, 25-20) on Friday.

The Iranian squad picked up its first victory on August 13, when it overcame Kuwait’s Qadsia Sporting Club in straight sets (25-11, 25-12, 25-19) in its opening match.

The 2015 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship opened in Taipei, Taiwan, on August 13, and will run until August 21.

Japan’s Panasonic Panthers has been pitted against Taichung Bank from Chinese Taipei, Afghanistan’d NDS and Turkmen team Migrasiya in Pool A.

Paykan Tehran from Iran, South Korea’ Armed Forces, Kuwaiti club Qadsia Sporting Club and the Philippine Cignal HD form Pool B.

Qatar’s al-Arabi Sport Club, Thai squad Nakhonratchasima, South Gas Club from Iraq and Australian team Victorian Volleyball Academy were drawn in Pool C.

Pool D comprises Pavlodar VC from Kazakhstan, China’s BAIC Motor, Vietnamese club Trang An Ninh Binh and Sohar from Oman.

The pool round-robin preliminaries are simultaneously being held at two gymnasiums, with Pool A and Pool B matches taking place at University of Taipei Hall and those of Pool C and Pool D at Taipei Gym.

After the preliminaries, the top two teams from each pool advance to Pool E and Pool F in the quarterfinals, with teams that finish third and fourth from each pool relegated to 9th-16th classification.

The champions of the tournament will qualify for FIVB Men’s Club World Championship in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, which is scheduled to be held from October 17 to November 1.
