Press TV has interviewed Hafsa Kara Mustapha, a political analyst in London, and Michael Lane, with the American Institute for Foreign Policy in Washington, to discuss Iran’s potentials for resolving regional crises after the successful conclusion of talks with the P5+1.

Kara Mustapha says Iran is a major player in the Middle East; and it is a very good decision by the Islamic Republic to engage in regional negotiations.

She believes “it is very commendable” that Iran is taking the decision to hold negotiations on a peace process in war-torn Syria.

The political expert also emphasizes that the Arab nations of the region are expected to get involved in the Syrian peace process, warning it is hard for Saudi Arabia to come to the negotiating table over Syria, while the kingdom is continuing the bombardment of Yemen.

Pointing out to the role of the United States in igniting tensions in the Middle East, she says, “It isn’t for the US administration to decide who should govern Syria... That attitude by the US has been instrumental in creating chaos across the Middle East.”

For his part, Lane describes the regional tour of Iran’s foreign minister to Beirut and Damascus as a “brilliant foreign policy move.”

He adds that the move puts Tehran at the forefront of regional issues and makes the Islamic Republic an immediate player to resolve problems; however, the efforts for putting an end to the Syrian conflict need more time, he says.
