Iran Navy to be fitted with new radar, combat equipment

A top Iranian commander says the Navy's vessels will be fitted with new equipment.

Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said equipment, including radar and sonar systems as well as marine combat equipment will be installed on submarines, missile-launching warships, destroyers and other floating vessels.

“This important move indicates the Islamic Republic of Iran’s self-sufficiency in supplying marine defense equipment and will once again surprise the world,” he pointed out.

In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

Iran has so far launched different classes of domestically-built advanced submarines, including Fateh, Ghadir, Qaem, Nahang, Tareq and Sina.

The Islamic Republic has also manufactured different types of destroyers.

Iran has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
