Iranian films to be screened at 2015 Montreal film festival

The 2015 edition of Montreal World Film Festival is set to screen five feature-length and short films by Iranian directors. 

‘Death of the Fish’ by Rouhollah Hejazi will be screened in the Focus on World Cinema section of the annual festival.

Hejazi’s feature-length production is about a woman who leaves a strange will, asking her children to keep her body at home for 3 days after her death without informing any relatives.

The 100-minute drama gained fame in Iran for featuring 11 acclaimed actors, including Niki Karimi, Ali Mosaffa, Tannaz Tabatabaei and Rima Raminfar among others. 

Other Iranian representatives at the 39th Montreal World Film Festival include Majid Majidi’s religious biopic ‘Muhammad (PBUH),’ Alireza Raeisian’s ‘A Time for Love’, Houman Seyyedi’s ‘Confessions of My Dangerous Mind’, and Karim Amini’s short film ‘Judgment Day.’

The prestigious cinematic event will run from August 27 to September 7. It aims to encourage cultural diversity and understanding between nations, to promote filmmakers and innovative works, to discover and encourage new talents, and to promote meetings between cinema professionals from around the world.

Montreal World Film Festival is the only competitive film festival in North America, recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF).
