Iran commander says ISIL on brink of annihilation

Iranian Armed Forces' Chief of Staff Major General Hassan Firouzabadi

A senior Iranian commander has called for the Iraqi nation not to relent in their determination in the battle against terrorism, saying the Takfiri ISIL terrorist group and its allies are on the brink of annihilation.

Iranian Armed Forces' Chief of Staff Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said on Sunday that the Iraqi government has had a “very good” performance and managed to make major achievements on the path toward maintaining the country’s territorial integrity and independence.

The developments in the region will eventually lead to the annihilation of the Takfiri terrorist group and its allies, the Iranian commander stated.

He also urged the Shia and Sunni Muslims in Iraq to keep a watchful eye on the acts of sabotage by certain groups, often non-Muslim, to portray the Iraqi government as inefficient.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian commander pointed to developments in Syria and said the government of President Bashar al-Assad has recently managed to make major breakthroughs in various fronts of the battle against terrorism.

The Syrian government has proved that it has the power to protect national interests and the country’s constitution, Firouzabadi said.

The ISIL terrorists have targeted various religious and ethnic groups both in Iraq and Syria, committing acts of violence against civilians.
