Al Saud, allies hell bent on killing Yemeni civilians: Analyst
Press TV has conducted an interview with Abayomi Azikiwe, an editor with the Pan-African News Wire from Detroit, to ask for his insight on the continuation of the Saudi aggression against the Yemeni people.
The following is a rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: It seems there is no end in sight for this war. Until when will it continue?
Azikiwe: Yes, it will continue until the Saudi Arabian alliance with the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council comes to the senses and realize that they cannot bomb the people of Yemen into submission. As you mentioned earlier, they have been targeting civilian areas and they have been doing this for several weeks now in Aden, in Dalia and other areas. In fact, there is United Arab Emirates troops, they’re on the ground in Yemen, carrying out operations. So, this is a very internationalized conflict using US weapons, F16 fighter planes, and the Saudis of course are financing and supplying weapons for all of this aggressive action in Yemen.
Press TV: But I mean, why can’t Yemen take legal action against Saudi Arabia?
Azikiwe: There is of course the role of the international community of the Red Cross. They have said explicitly that there are gross humanitarian crises that are taking place in Yemen. And of course all of this is illegal. The Saudi [P]GCC coalition as well as Washington should be brought before international bodies, before the United Nations Security Council for what they’re doing in Yemen. It’s a war of genocide, it’s a war of regime change and they are hell bent on, in fact, killing as many people in Yemen as they can.
Press TV: How do you think this war should be stopped?
Azikiwe: It could end if there’s a realization on the part of Washington and on the part of the forces that are backed by Saudi Arabia and the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council that there is no solution in carrying out these massive aerial bombardments. Civilians mainly are being killed in this war and it spilled over into Saudi Arabia itself. It’s involving numerous countries throughout the region. It is targeted also the Islamic Republic of Iran. So, all of these facts have to be taken into a consideration before and there’s a genuine negotiation for this cessation of hostilities.
