Jews in US capable of overriding Obama’s veto of Iran deal: Analyst

An American geopolitical commentator says “Jewish oligarchs” are so powerful in the United States that can override President Barack Obama’s veto of any congressional opposition to the Iran nuclear agreement.

In a phone interview with Press TV on Wednesday, Scott Rickard said Jewish oligarchs in the US “have dedicated tens of millions of dollars to the opposition of the Iran deal.”

He made the remarks when asked to comment about Obama’s warning to the leaders of American Jewish Community during a meeting in the White House on Tuesday.

The meeting was part of an effort by the Obama administration to gain support for the agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1 group -- the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany – in the Austrian capital of Vienna on July 14.

The chairman of the National Jewish Democratic Council, Greg Rosenbaum, who was one of 20 leaders who met with Obama, said the president warned them that rockets would possibly fall on Tel Aviv if a nuclear agreement with Iran was blocked.

Rickard said the remarks are “indicative of the fact that he [Obama] is desperate to get the support of the Democratic Jewish Community.”

Obama “fears the fact that this organization is so powerful that they may be able to override his veto of any congressional type of opposition to the Iran deal,” he added.

“His comments during the meeting with Greg Rosenbaum and other leaders in the Jewish community in the United States were very clearly stating that if this deal doesn’t go through and the United States does attack Iran, then Iran would actually bomb Israel. Obviously these are perpetuating the propaganda that Iran has any intentions of attacking Israel,” said Rickard.

He added that Obama “is perpetuating an untruthful foreign policy for the American people."

Obama is “misrepresenting the United States people and misleading United States people down a path that is absolutely not in the interest of sovereignty of the United States, sovereignty of Iran and the safety of not only the people of those countries but the safety of the people on the world,” he added.

“These individuals are actually making it more unsafe to operate from an international geopolitical perspective because they are perpetuating and putting fear down in uncertainty in the minds of individuals, basically saying that Iran has any intention of attacking Israel. It is absolutely untrue,” Rickard noted.
