Press TV has conducted an interview with Mike Billington, with the Asia desk of the Executive Intelligence Review, in Leesburg, Virginia, to discuss Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s meeting with his top military commanders to discuss the situation in the country’s restive east.
Following is a rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: How much does Poroshenko’s meeting with military commanders mean the Ukraine crisis is shifting towards militarism?
Billington: Poroshenko is not in charge. What is happening is what should have been expected, which was openly identified by Mr. LaRouche when the coup against Ukraine took place under US auspices by Victoria Nuland. A coup that was largely run on the Maidan by the right sector, the Nazi forces who praise Stepan Bandera, Hitler’s ally in Ukraine who carried the Swastika and are committed to a Nazi solution of driving all Russians and other ethnics out of Ukraine. That is what is happening now.
The Kiev forces have been in a battle with the right sector on the Western front, and there have been demonstrations again on the Maidan, demanding that Poroshenko drop the Minsk agreement and move for full-scale military assault against the Donbass.
The point here is that this has nothing to do with Ukraine per se. The point is that the coup against Ukraine was intended to turn Ukraine into a spark for Obama and the British plan for a military confrontation with Russia and we are now on the brink of that confrontation.
Mr. LaRouche has warned strongly that this month of August, in which the Congress in the United States is going on their summer holiday starting tomorrow, is a month in which Obama is going to be relatively free of the influence of the Congress and under the control of British monarchy’s ties to the Nazi forces historically and still today, and he is likely to start a war perhaps even in this month of August, not because of what is happening in Ukraine but because the Western financial system is collapsing and they cannot tolerate Russia, China, India and the BRICS nations coming together to form a new financial system.
Press TV: So is there any way that this crisis could ever be resolved through diplomacy?
Billington: Well, that is what the Minsk agreement was. Remember the Minsk agreement bypassed the United States and the British. This was European forces who recognized that the sanctions against Russia, the war in Ukraine were largely targeted at Europe generally. This has destroyed the Western-European economies.
The sanctions have destroyed Europe more than they have Russia, who is now working closely with the BRICS countries, and it has hurt Russia. But it is devastating even for Germany, let alone the collapse of Greece, the near-term collapse of Italy, Portugal and so forth. The entire Euro is falling apart.
And the policy here is to go to war, with the intention of basically breaking the Russian-Chinese-Indian BRICS move towards creating a new global financial system based on development and progress rather than austerity and genocidal policies in keeping with Obama and the British empire.
So the diplomatic policy can and must be followed. The Minsk agreement could work if it were not for the fact that the Ukraine is governed by Victoria Nuland’s friends in the right sector, and therefore what Poroshenko is doing is running into opposition from the Western-controlled neo-Nazi resurgence that is taking place there in Ukraine.
