Russia concerned over ISIL influence in region

Russian government spokesman Dmitry Peskov

Russia has warned of "the growing influence" of the ISIL terrorist group in the areas under its control in the Middle East.

"It is common knowledge that Russia has been expressing concern at the highest levels about a growing influence of the so-called Islamic State [ISIL] and how it is expanding territory under its control in Syria and Iraq," the Russian government spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said on Tuesday.

Peskov called for international cooperation to confront the big threat posed by the Takfiri terrorists.

"We have this concern and we want to call on everyone to cooperate on the matter," said Peskov, adding that Moscow plans to outline details of the Russian leadership's strategy for crackdown on the terrorist group.

Moscow has in the past voiced its readiness to take part in any comprehensive plan aimed at eradicating the Takfiri organization.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on July 14 that the conclusion of Iran's nuclear talks with world powers has paved the way to create a “broad” enough coalition to annihilate the ISIL Takfiri terrorist group.

“It removes the barriers – largely artificial – on the way to a broad coalition to fight” ISIL and other terrorist groups, said Lavrov.

The ISIL Takfiri group is wreaking havoc in some countries in the Middle East, particularly Syria and Iraq. Certain Western states and their regional allies, including Turkey and Saudi Arabia, are widely accused of supporting the militants.
