Biden to decide on presidential bid by summer's end: Earnest

US Vice President Joe Biden is set to announce a decision whether or not to run for president in the 2016 vote by the end of summer, says White House spokesman Josh Earnest.

“What the Vice President [Biden] has said publically, a possible campaign for the presidency is something he is considering, and he anticipated that he would make a decision by the end of the summer,” Earnest said on Monday.

Biden was said to have been pressured to enter the race by his late son, Beau, before his death, reports said.

In case he makes the decision enter the race, it would be the third time he is running for president after attempts in 1988 and 2008.

Since his 2008 campaign, he has been serving as the vice president for two consecutive terms in the administration of his fellow-Democrat, President Barack Obama.

If he does enter the race, he will have to compete with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Democratic primaries.

"We'll let him make his decision," CNN quoted Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton's campaign spokeswoman, as saying on Sunday.

Donald Trump, the current leading candidate for the Republican nomination, told ABC News on Sunday that he thinks Biden could “maybe beat” Clinton.

“Her numbers are going down drastically, so somebody like Biden could probably go in and do very well and maybe win,” he said.

A Saturday column by New York Times, detailed an impassionate request by 46-year-old Beau Biden, calling on his father to run for president.

"Beau was losing his nouns and the right side of his face was partially paralyzed," it read. "But he had a mission: He tried to make his father promise to run, arguing that the White House should not revert to the Clintons and that the country would be better off with Biden values."
