Persian Gulf Arab states have welcomed the nuclear agreement between Iran and six global powers, saying they are glad that a solution was reached on the issue.

Speaking for the [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council, Qatari Foreign Minister Khalid bin Mohammad Al-Attiyah said Monday that the breakthrough in the talks was the best option available to the Western standoff with Iran over Tehran's nuclear program.

Attiyah made the remarks after a ministerial meeting of the six-nation bloc in Doha, which also attended by US Secretary of State John Kerry.

The top US diplomat was there as part of his regional tour aimed at assuring US allies about the July 14 agreement clinched in Vienna between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries, which includes the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany.

Kerry said that fellow foreign ministers in the bloc, which comprises Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait, have all agreed that once fully implemented, the accord could contribute to the security of the Middle East region.

The Qatari foreign minister also said that the regional alliance is happy with the way the United States has presented the results of Iran talks.

Many governments around the world have hailed the conclusion of the negotiations on Iran's nuclear program as a historic achievement for advocates of diplomacy. Under the agreement better known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), limits are put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for a set of commitments undertaken by the P5+1, including the removal of all economic and financial sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
