One man was killed and ten other people were injured as a result of two overnight separate shootings in Brooklyn, the New York Police Department has confirmed.
In the first shooting that took place around 1 a.m. on Sunday, a gunman opened fire on three people inside a playground, killing a 20-year-old man and injuring two other people.
The second shooting took place only an hour later in a different Brooklyn neighborhood, where nine people were shot in the backyard of a house in East New York.
A 19-year-old woman who was shot in the neck and one leg and a 24-year-old man who was also hit in the neck have sustained the most critical injuries.
Other victims, including two men and five women, were all shot non-fatally, according to the police.
Four more people were hospitalized with cuts and bruises as a result of the brutal altercation.
The reason behind the shootings was not known to the police and none of the gunmen were arrested.
The violence comes after a period of relative calm in Brooklyn, where police had tried to bring about more security by deploying more patrols to curb a wave of gun violence that swiped the area not long ago.
