A military helicopter has crashed during an air show in central Russia, killing one of its pilots and injuring another, the Russian Defense Ministry says.

The Defense Ministry’s press office said in a statement on Sunday that the pilot died after an Mi-28N helicopter crashed while performing aerobatics at the Dubrovichi firing range in Ryazan Region, about 170 kilometers (105 miles) southeast of Moscow.

The statement added that the pilot who survived the crash was in satisfactory condition.

Media reports indicated that the audience was evacuated, and that there were no injuries on the ground.

The aerobatics show has been part of the International Army Games that began in the region on Saturday. The competitions at shooting ranges involve troops from Russia and several other nations.

The Mi-28 is a two-seat attack helicopter, which has in recent years replaced the older Soviet-built helicopter gunships in the Russian inventory. The copter has been sold to several foreign countries, including Iraq and Kenya.
