Southwest Iran port city experiences 73 °C heat: Report

A port city in Iran’s southwest has experienced a temperature of 163 °F (73 °C), reportedly one of the hottest registered across the world to date, according to a weather website.

The Mercury skyrocketed on thermometers in Bandar Mahshahr on Friday, only a day after the city sizzled in an apparent temperature of 154 °F (68 °C) and the locals thought the heat could not take any more serious rates.

“That was one of the most incredible temperature observations I have ever seen and it is one of the most extreme readings ever in the world,” said Anthony Sagliani, a meteorologist for the AccuWeather website.

Reports of the high temperature in Bandar Mahshahr, however, have not been confirmed by Iranian meteorologists, yet.

The Friday heat had been brought about by a combination of an actual temperature of 115 °F (46 °C) and a dew point temperature of 90 °F (32 °C).

The port’s weather, meanwhile, is not expected to show any signs of relent any time soon.

“Right now, it appears as though the ridge of high pressure will remain in place across the Middle East through at least the next week, so more oppressive heat and humidity, and more astounding apparent temperatures, are likely through the next several days,” said Sagliani.
