Press TV has interviewed Hafsa Kara-Mustapha, a journalist and Middle East expert in London, and Frederick Peterson, a congressional defense policy adviser from Washington, to discuss the implications of the recent US arms sale to Saudi Arabia.

Kara-Mustapha believes Saudi Arabia is a “vassal state to the US” and completely compliant to every directive that has been issued by Washington.

The Saudi leadership is implementing Washington’s plan in the Middle East, which is to create separation and war in the region, the political analyst notes.

The United States is replacing the Israeli regime with the Saudi kingdom to some extent, she says, adding that Israel used to be viewed as the US embassy in the Middle East, and nowadays Saudi Arabia seems a large US mission in the Persian Gulf region.

The Saudi kingdom has killed many people in Yemen and while the US not only refuses to condemn the Saudi bombardment of the impoverished country, it also supports the Saudis in terms of logistics and intelligence, Kara Mustapha argues.

For his part, Peterson believes the Saudis purchase new weapons to improve their aerial defense capabilities to encounter missile attacks. He adds that Saudi Arabia and its allies are buying weapons to prevent chaos in the Middle East and to respond to terrorism and aggression, which threaten their territories.
