A new poll by the Quinnipiac University shows Donald Trump is still the leading name among candidates who are running for the Republican nomination in the 2016 US presidential election.

According to the poll, published on Thursday, the billionaire has gained 20 percent of the votes, with Wisconsin Governor Scot Walker as his closest opponent, with 13 percent of the votes.

Jeb Bush is next on the list and slots in the third position after Walker with only 10 percent of the votes.

Although he remains the top Republican candidate for now, Trump has in reality showed the worst favorability score among all GOP candidates which is likely due to his poor showing in the one-on-one race with Hillary Clinton, the Democratic front-runner who outvotes Trump by a margin of 48 to 36 percent, as suggested by the poll.

Trump owes his popularity to outrageous remarks he has been making throughout his campaign.

The reality TV star stirred controversy by denouncing Republican Senator John McCain’s military records who was captured in Vietnam war for five and a half year.

The 69-year-old has also sparked criticism by stating that he will “find” undocumented immigrants and then “get them” out of the country.

His views on gun control laws have also been a magnet for controversy as he believes this law will not reduce crime and “has consistently failed to stop violence.”

It is worth mentioning that Ohio Governor John Kasich, who only entered the race last week, also showed promising results in the poll, almost doubling his support.
