Video shows NYPD police punch black man during arrest

New York City officers were captured on video punching a black man as they try to arrest him for trespassing inside a Brooklyn Target.

A new video posted online shows four New York City police officers punching an unarmed African-American man, pinning him to ground before his arrest in a large retail store.

Alando Brissett, 25, reportedly got into an argument with an employee at a Target retail outlet in Brooklyn on Saturday night and police were called in when he refused to leave the store.

The 14-minute video, posted to YouTube, shows several officers from the New York City Police Department (NYPD) crowding around Brissett and using excessive force against him.

One NYPD officer can be seen putting his knee on the man’s head, and at least two cops then begin punching him. As Brissett is struck, several customers can be heard yelling, “Don’t hit him!” while a group of people walk toward the cops.

Several minutes pass before police take Brissett out of the store in handcuffs with his shorts around his ankles. Once outside, he is taken to an ambulance and then to a police cruiser.

“I was certainly shocked at the level of force that was used,” said Michael Rolland, 31, who took the video while shopping at the store.

Brissett was charged with trespassing, disorderly conduct, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.

“He's not a bad kid, he's not a rude kid,” Brissett’s grandmother said, adding he often does her laundry for her without her having to ask. She said her grandson often returned bottles at the Target store to make some extra money.

The unnecessary use of heavy-handed tactics by police as well as the racial profiling of some minorities has become a major concern across the US in recent years.

The US Justice Department is under intense pressure to review the use of brutal force by law enforcement officers.
