China says Iran ties can boost protection of joint interests
The Chinese foreign minister has urged the enhancement of relations with the Islamic Republic, saying the ties can help safeguard the joint interests of the two countries worldwide.
In a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that Beijing attaches great importance to the expansion of ties with Iran.
The Chinese foreign minister said his country played a positive role in the drawn-out nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 countries.
Wang added that Beijing is also interested in playing an active part in implementing a recent nuclear agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1, which is known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
On July 14, Iran and the six global powers - the United States, France, Britain, Russia, China - plus Germany managed to finalize the text of JCPOA in the Austrian capital of Vienna. Under the JCPOA, limits are put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for a set of commitments by the P5+1, including the removal of all economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.
Rahimpour, for his part, said the Islamic Republic views China as its most important strategic partner, voicing Tehran's interest in broader ties with Beijing in all fields.
The Iranian official said Tehran is keen and prepared to improve relations with Beijing in all fields.
