Evil friendship: Israel, UK & weapons

Activists occupy a UK-based Israeli-owned factory in Kent, February 17, 2015.

A British factory that is owned by Israeli military company Elbit and that produces engines for drones has been shut down by pro-Palestinian activists.

The factory, based near Birmingham, belongs to UAV Engines Limited, a subsidiary of Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit.

Elbit Systems, based in Haifa, now employs well over 11,500 Israelis. Seventy five percent of its market is outside Israel, including in the UK.

Elbit has been leasing its drones to the UK armed forces for use in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2007.

The engines of several classes of Elbit drones are designed and manufactured in the above-mentioned factory in the UK.

In this edition of The Monarchy, we examine the British government’s recent move to cancel all restrictions for arms export to Israel.
