Syrian army repels militant attack in Dara’a

Syrian army soldiers have repelled an offensive by foreign-backed militants against the southwestern city of Dara’a, Press TV reports.

The failed attack by the terrorists is the second such offensive this week.

“After every militant attack, we managed to repel them. The militants may choose when to launch their assault, but it is us who decide when the fighting will finish,” a Syrian army officer told Press TV.

Another Syrian army officer said the militants had attacked the city four times over the past 45 days, losing more than 100 members each time.

He added that it appears the terrorists were willing to “have a moral victory at any cost.”

This comes as Syrian army soldiers and Kurdish forces also managed to make gains against ISIL terrorists in the northeastern city of Hasakah.

Last month, ISIL terrorists began their assault on Hasakah city, before capturing a number of its neighborhoods and forcing the evacuation of many of its residents.

The Syrian army and pro-government forces have been fighting foreign-backed militants since March 2011. More than 230,000 people have been killed in the unrest.

Over 3.8 million Syrians have left their country since the beginning of the crisis. More than 7.2 million Syrians have also become internally displaced, according to the United Nations.
