Syria’s army units have started new operations across the war-torn country and inflicted heavy casualties on the Takfiri terrorists.

Syria's official SANA news agency reported on Friday that the Syrian air force carried out airstrikes on ISIL terrorists’ positions across the central province of Homs, killing and injuring scores of terrorists.

A large amount of weapons, ammunition, and equipment belonging to the ISIL militants were also destroyed in the operation.

Backed by the airstrikes, the Syrian ground forces targeted terrorist positions north of the ancient city of Palmyra. Syrian forces have recently intensified their attacks on the ISIL-held city to take it back.

The country’s air force also destroyed many of ISIL bases and assorted vehicles in the northwestern province of Idlib and the western province of Latakia.

The army units also shelled the terrorists’ hideouts and vehicles in the provinces of Hama, Aleppo, and Dara'a.

In the northern Aleppo province, an army unit also managed to detect and destroy a 140-meter-long tunnel extending from al-Jdaideh village in the east to the housing area in the surroundings of the Air Force Academy in Aleppo’s eastern countryside. All the militants inside the tunnel were also killed.

The army also secured some parts of the city of Hasaka, the capital of the northeastern Hasaka province, which was seized by the ISIL last month. Syrian troops have pledged to keep fighting until the whole city is liberated.

Foreign-backed terrorists began their deadly campaign in Syria in March 2011. The militancy by the Takfiri groups has so far claimed the lives of over 230,000 people, according to the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The UN says over 7.2 million people have also been internally displaced, while more than three million others have fled to other countries due to the intolerable conditions caused by the crisis.
