Iran’s boxer Mohammadpour defeated in AIBA Pro Boxing

Iran’s flyweight boxer Sajad Mohammadpour (L) and his Bulgarian opponent Aleksandar Aleksandrov

Iran’s flyweight boxer Sajad Mohammadpour has conceded a narrow defeat at the Association Internationale de Boxe Amateur (AIBA) Pro Boxing (APB) currently underway in Bulgaria.

On Saturday night, the 22-year-old Iranian sportsman exhibited an impressive display of skills and strength in the Bulgarian capital’s Hall Sofia, which drew awe from many spectators.

Mohammadpour lost his 52-kilogram division bout against Bulgaria’s Aleksandar Aleksandrov as his competitor proved too mighty.

Mohammadpour and Aleksandrov had met before at the 2014 Strandja Memorial Tournament in Sofia, where the Iranian sportsman sensationally defeated the Bulgarian by split decision.

The Iranian flyweight boxer produced one of the biggest shocks of APB Flyweight Cycle I Round 1, where he vanquished AIBA World Championships silver medalist Mohamed Flissi in his APB debut earlier last month.

Mohammadpour’s punches startled Flissi on several occasions in the bout, and his relentless energy also confounded the decorated Algerian fighter.

Iranian welterweight boxer Amin Ghasemipour is scheduled to take on his Greek opponent Dimitrios Poulikos Tsagkrakos in the 69-kg weight class of APB Cycle I Round 2 at the Arena Sports and Entertainment Complex in Kemerovo, Russia, on July 24, 2015.
