Protests in Ukraine's Independence Square (Maidan) initiated a process of oligarchic restructuring. Some oligarchs lost influence and a significant part of their wealth. Other oligarchs, on the other hand, despite losses, became stronger, more secure.

President Petro Poroshenko, himself an oligarch, is in the middle of a feud with oligarch Ihor Kolomoyskyi, who has said he would come after him with his own army after he was fired as governor.
