Over 100 ISIL Takfiris killed in Iraqi army operations
More than 100 militants from the Takfiri ISIL terrorist group have been killed as Iraqi army forces supported by fighters from the Popular Mobilization units launched separate mop-up operations in the country’s western province of Anbar.
According to a statement released by Iraq's Interior Ministry on Wednesday, more than 76 ISIL extremists were killed as Iraqi fighter jets carried out precision strikes against terrorist hideouts in the western town of Hit, located about 140 kilometers (85 miles) west of the capital, Baghdad, as well as al-Qaim town, situated about 500 kilometers (about 310 miles) west of Baghdad.
The statement further said that an Iraqi-born militant identified as Abu Rezwan al-Ansari, who had been responsible for facilitating terrorist attacks in and around the capital city, was killed in an airstrike in Hit.
Iraqi security personnel also launched an operation in the Tal Masoud district east of the Anbar provincial capital of Ramadi, situated about 110 kilometers (68 miles) west of Baghdad, killing 11 ISIL militants and three foreign snipers.
A total of 17 booby-trapped houses were also cleared and three vehicles loaded with heavy munitions destroyed following the offensive.
Additionally, security forces managed to regain complete control of a strategic bridge linking the city of Saqlawiyah – located 50 kilometers (31 miles) west of Baghdad – to the town of Khalidiya, located about 83 kilometers (50 miles) west of the capital.
Pro-government volunteer forces also cut off ISIL supply lines between the town of al-Karma, located 48 kilometers (30 miles) west of Baghdad, and the city of Fallujah, located roughly 69 kilometers (43 miles) west of the capital.
Moreover, Iraqi security personnel took back three districts in Anbar Province from ISIL, and killed 19 members of the militant group in the process.
The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by violence ever since Takfiri ISIL militants began their march through the Iraqi territory in June 2014.
The heavily-armed terrorists took control of Mosul before sweeping through parts of the country’s heartland.
