Iraqi security forces, backed by volunteer fighters, have killed a senior commander of Takfiri ISIL terrorists on the third day of an ongoing large-scale military operation to liberate the western province of Anbar.

On Wednesday, Iraqi forces killed the ISIL commander, known as Mohammad Eid, in al-Tash region, located about 120 kilometers (74 miles) west of Baghdad. The region was liberated on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Iraqi tribal fighters seized ISIL positions in the center of the strategic western city of Fallujah, located roughly 69 kilometers (43 miles) west of Baghdad, inflicting heavy damage on the terrorists.

In addition, the Iraqi army took control of the al-Hitaween region south of Fallujah. They also captured ISIL positions in the town of al-Karmah, killing a number of terrorists.

Iraq’s al-Sumaria satellite TV network quoted Yahya al-Mohammadi, the commander of the Second Regiment of Popular Mobilization units, as saying that Iraqi forces manged to retake al-Ebarah bridge that extends along the Euphrates River from the terrorists.

The bridge connects al-Khalediyah district east of Ramadi to al-Saqlawiya north of Fallujah.

Iraqi security personnel also killed 57 ISIL militants, destroyed two tanker bombs as well as a breakdown truck, and seized two vehicles rigged with explosives as they mounted an operation in the city of Husaibah al-Sharqiyah, located more than 110 kilometers (68 miles) west of the capital, Baghdad, on Tuesday.

Moreover, Iraqi fighter jets carried out precision strikes against terrorist hideouts in the town of al-Karma, located 48 kilometers (30 miles) west of the capital, killing scores of ISIL terrorists.

Additionally, Popular Mobilization forces have liberated al-Dawajen, Albu Hamdan and Albu Issa districts north of Fallujah from ISIL militants.

Iraqi authorities announced the start of the major operation to “liberate Anbar” on Monday, with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi saying that he will announce the news of liberation of the province soon.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by violence ever since Takfiri ISIL militants began their march through Iraqi territory in June 2014.
