A man has been killed near the Bahraini capital of Manama while attempting to plant a bomb near the city, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry says.

The ministry said on its Twitter account on Wednesday that the man died as a result of the premature bomb blast in the village of Ekr near the capital.

The ministry did not identify the man, who reportedly sought to target police in the village.

According to local witnesses, Bahraini security forces cordoned off the area where the incident took place.
