Iran’s Larijani rejects gradual sanctions relief in nuclear conclusion

Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani

Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani has rejected claims that sanctions against the Islamic Republic will be removed in phases as part of the conclusion of nuclear talks between Tehran and the P5+1 group.

The claims by certain officials of the P5+1 countries that sanctions will be phased out is probably their own wishes because the text of the conclusion does not indicate such a thing, Larijani said during a session of parliament on Wednesday.

Larijani said that such claims are aimed at solving the internal problems of those countries.

The top parliamentarian said that the conclusion of the talks further isolates “evil” elements of the region, including Israel, and opens new horizons for more cooperation between the Islamic Republic and regional as well as Islamic countries.

Following 18 days of marathon talks in Vienna over Tehran’s nuclear program, Iran and the P5+1 group of world powers – the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany -- reached a conclusion on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Based on the nuclear conclusion, limits will be put on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the removal of sanctions, including all economic and financial bans, against the Islamic Republic.

Following the conclusion of the talks on Tuesday, US President Barack Obama said in an address from the White House that sanctions relief would be gradual for Iran.

This comes as, President Hassan Rouhani said in an address to the Iranian nation following the conclusion of the talks that all sanctions imposed on Iran, including the financial, economic and banking ones, will be fully lifted and not suspended on the day the agreement begins to be implemented.
