Nuclear issue invented to put pressure on Iran: Analyst

Press TV has interviewed Jim W. Dean, managing editor of the Veterans Today from Atlanta, and Jim Walsh, with the Security Studies Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from Boston, to discuss the ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 group.

Dean says the whole struggle on Iranian nuclear program is a “hoax” to impose sanctions on Iran to keep its oil production off the market, paving the way for foreign oil companies to earn billions of dollars in profits.

He said the US does not favor the removal of an arms embargo, which is said to have been imposed on Iran over its nuclear activities in 2007, as part of a potential nuclear deal between Tehran and the P5+1 states.

Washington is well aware that the Islamic Republic has never sought nuclear weapons, argues Dean, adding that the US intends to change the focus of Iran-P5+1 talks from the nuclear case to Iran’s defense buildup in an attempt to keep the restrictions on the country’s imports of conventional military equipment.

The political analyst also says the Iranian side has announced it will not negotiate the Iranian defense might, and that the discussions should remain focused on the nuclear dossier.

Dean further underlined the need for the removal of all anti-Iran bans as part of a comprehensive accord between Tehran and its negotiating sides – Russia, China, France, Britain, the US and Germany.

For his part, Walsh believes Iran and the P5+1 group have made great progress in their nuclear negotiations, predicting that there will be a final agreement on July 13.

He said a good nuclear deal between Iran and the six states would be in the interest of all parties.
