Enemies dare not endanger Iran borders: Navy commander
The Iranian Navy commander says enemies of the Islamic Republic dare not endanger the country’s borders.
“Iran is in a situation that no enemy dares to threaten or come close to the Islamic Republic’s sea and land borders and we announce that we will not be afraid of any threats and will fully defend [the country’s territory],” Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said in an interview on Saturday.
The commander said that enemies have been seeking to undermine the Islamic Republic since the victory of the Islamic Revolution more than three decades ago but the country has managed to foil all plots and counter all threats.
In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.
Iran has so far manufactured different types of domestically-made radar systems, drones, destroyers, missiles, submarines and fighter jets.
Last week, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched a long-range radar system in Iran’s southwest to enhance the country’s air defense capabilities.
The domestically-manufactured Qadir radar system, designed by IRGC’s Aerospace Division, is capable of detecting targets with a very small cross section from a long distance.
The system enjoys a direct range of 1,100 kilometers (more than 680 miles) and can be used to detect different types of aircraft as well as ballistic missiles.
The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other nations, particularly its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
