Press TV has conducted an interview with independent researcher and writer Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich from Irvine in the US state of California, and the president of the American Institute for Foreign Policy, Michael Lane, from Washington, to discuss the latest twists and turns in the ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 countries.

Sepahpour believes that it is quite possible for the negotiating sides to come up with a favorable conclusion over the remaining disputed issues regarding Iran’s nuclear program, but, according to her, the excessive demands by the western countries, which are in violation of the Lausanne agreement, have prevented them from doing so.

Sepahpour also asserts that the US government is not truly after a fair deal with Iran, adding that the nuclear talks are just an excuse for US President Barack Obama to engage Iran and also to impede its gaining power as a potential threat to Washington’s interests in the region.

On the contrary, Lane maintains that Obama is desperate to clinch a nuclear deal with Tehran under any circumstances, no matter how good it is, because he thinks that such a deal could be a good legacy for his government in terms of foreign policy.
