Iran announces plan to launch new flights to European destinations
Deputy head of the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran has announced that the country is planning to launch international flights to new and diverse destinations in Europe.
A statement released by the Public Relations Department of the organization quoted Mohammad Khodakarami as saying that due to vast international network of European airlines, development of aviation cooperation with European companies is a priority of the Civil Aviation Organization.
He added that Iran is also trying to update its memorandums of understanding with other countries in order to increase the number of weekly flights to various destinations and also increase the number of those destinations.
Khodakarami noted that Iran has already issued necessary permit for Greece’s Aegean Airlines in order to conduct flights between Tehran and Athens.
Saying that Tehran-Athens flights will be launched as of July 23, 2015, the official added, “After a temporary halt in flights between Iran and Greece, two domestic and foreign airlines have decided to restart flights between the two capitals.”
Khodakarami stated that Iran's Mahan Air will conduct two weekly flights between Tehran and Athens while Greece’s flag carrier will conduct three weekly flights between the two cities starting on July 23.
The Civil Aviation Organization of Iran announced in mid-June that a number of European insurance firms have indicated their willingness to work with Iranian airlines.
The statement released by the organization back in June added that the European insurance companies were also willing to start preliminary negotiations with the Iranian authorities to determine the conditions for their cooperation with the Iranian airlines.
