Many US lawmakers ‘cheerleaders’ for Israel lobby: Analyst
US Senator and Republican presidential candidate Lindsey Graham and his congressional allies on Capitol Hill are fierce advocates of military campaigns in favor of Israel’s interests, an American activist and radio host in California says.
Senator Graham has for years “banged the drums of war” for American military interventions in various Middle Eastern countries, said Rodney Martin, a former US congressional staffer.
“He’s nothing more than an empty suit and a cheerleader for Jewish-Zionist interests,” Martin said during a phone interview with Press TV on Monday.
On Sunday, Graham lashed out at President Barack Obama over his foreign policy, arguing that his policy helped the rise of the ISIL terrorist group in the Middle East.
“Obama doesn’t know what he’s doing,” Graham said on Sunday. “I have never been more worried about an attack on our homeland than I am right now.”
“Senator Lindsey Graham’s incredible statement blaming President Obama for the rise of ISIL in the Middle East is an intellectually dishonest statement and laughable,” Martin noted.
“It was Senator Graham’s policies and his cohorts, his very close friend [Senator] John McCain; it was their cheerleading under the George W. Bush administration that created the atmosphere and the policy environment for what we see as ISIL and before that al-Qaeda,” he added.
“All of this American, neocon effort of dismembering nation states in the Middle East for the benefit and expansion of the Zionist ‘state’ is a travesty,” Martin concluded.
The ISIL terrorists, many of whom were initially trained by the CIA in Jordan in 2012 to destabilize the Syrian government, are engaged in crimes against humanity in the areas under their control.
Observers say that while the US and its allies claim they are fighting against terrorist groups like ISIL, they in fact helped create and train those organizations to wreak havoc the Middle Eastern countries.
