Press TV has interviewed Pepe Escobar, an investigative journalist, and Richard Weitz, an expert with the Wikistrat Community, to discuss a possible deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries.

Escobar says Russia, China and even the European countries are interested in reaching the deal and lifting the anti-Iran sanctions to resume and expand economic and energy ties with the Islamic Republic.

He maintains that Iran and the P5+1 can reach a deal on the Iranian nuclear program, adding that there is an understanding at the negotiating table that the result of the nuclear talks must be a “face-saving deal for everybody,” for the West, Russia and China, and for Iran as well.

The issue of Iran’s nuclear program is not a problem, but the question here is the wall of mistrust between Iran and the United States, the journalist says, adding that US officials have changed their attitude toward Iran and started to treat Iranians with some measure of respect.

For his part, Weitz believes that many issues have been resolved during the talks between Iran and the P5+1 group. He says other lingering issues such as ‘how long a possible deal will last’ are not impossible to solve.
