British equalities activists are calling for UK theatrical distributors and cinemas to show Justin Simien’s Sundance-winning feature Dear White People - the identity comedy about the tension between white and black students at an elite university - that was a critical and commercial success in the US outside of the limited theatrical release currently on offer to UK theatre-goers. A petition has been launched that charges the film industry in the UK with suffering from ‘institutional racism’.
