Iraqi forces free bridge, areas in Anbar: Badr Organization
Iraqi forces have liberated a strategic bridge and three areas of a city in the restive Iraqi province of al-Anbar, the country’s Badr Organization says.
The media office of the secretary general of the organization released a statement on Sunday, saying, “The Japanese Bridge, which links Samarra district with [the cities of] Ramadi and Fallujah, has been liberated.”
The statement further noted that areas of al-Arifa, Albu Matiri and Ginan in the city of Saqlawiyah, which have been under the siege of the ISIL Takfiri terrorists, were cleared of the militants.
The statement added that at least five Takfiri militants, who were in explosive-laden cars, were also killed in the operations.
In a separate development, Iraq’s Hezbollah Brigades said in a statement that all the self-proclaimed administrative leaders of the ISIL Takfiri group have fled the area of Baiji refinery, located near the key northern city of Baiji in Salahuddin Province.
The statement further noted, however, that there are still some militants in the area.
It added that at least 40 members of the ISIL Takfiri group were killed by the Iraqi fighters during the operation.
The ISIL started its campaign of terror in Iraq in early June 2014. The heavily-armed militants took control of Mosul before sweeping through parts of the country’s Sunni Arab heartland.
The terrorists have been carrying out horrific acts of violence against all Iraqi communities such as Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians.
