US protesters burn American flag in Florida: Video
A group of American activists gathered together in Tampa, Florida to hold protests against the widespread racism in the country and burned the stars and stripes flag to show their frustration.
The “End Racist Violence” protesters also burned the US confederate flag arguing that both flags are the same and represent genocide and slavery.
The protest was held on the eve of the anniversary of Independence Day at Curtis Hixon Park.
"To us the confederate flag and the American flag, those represent the same thing, which is that this country, this social system was built on slavery and genocide," said Jesse Nevel, with the Uhuru Solidarity Movement.
The demonstrators over the weekend demanded a couple of the confederate flags to be brought down in the crowded areas of the city.
Renaming a school dubbed after Robert E. Lee, who was a confederate army commander during the American Civil War, was also one of the main demands of the protesters.
The activists also called for official investigations into recent cases of possible discrimination against local black citizens and announced their intention to continue their protests until their demands are met.
The rally was closely controlled by Tampa police forces. No arrests were made as protests ended in peace.
