Missing UK family ‘safe’ with ISIL in Syria

A statement purportedly released by a missing UK family says they are “safer than ever” with ISIL terrorists in Syria.

In it, they reportedly confirm that they are in Syria, and question why it should be shocking that all 12 family members fled the UK.

The statement, which has not yet been independently verified, was handed to British media by another Briton fighting in Syria.

It says, "We say to those that are concerned for our safety to put your hearts at rest for we feel safer than we have ever felt before."

The news of their ‘fleeing’ has left relatives and friends shocked. Many still cannot believe that the statement or in fact their travel to Syria can be true.

The 12 members include the head of the family; 75-year-old Muhammed Abdul Mannan, his wife and children; with their grandchildren; the youngest being just one year old.

Two of Mannan’s sons from a previous marriage initially reported the family had gone missing, noting that they flew to Bangladesh on April 10 and then from there to Turkey.

There are reports that the family has links to the banned group al-Muhajiroun.

After several years of quiet passage to Syria, in recent months, British media, politicians and police have started highlighting cases of families fleeing to join the ISIL.

The UK police say around half of more than 700 suspects who made the journey to the war-torn country have already returned.
