Press TV has conducted an interview with Sara Flounders, co-director of the International Action Center from New York, to ask for her insight on the Saudi regime’s ongoing military campaign against neighboring Yemen.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: More than 100 days into the Saudi war on Yemen, how much has Saudi Arabia gained its objectives, do you think?

Flounders: Saudi Arabia has not gained its objectives at all, not one of them. Its objective was to crush a very popular uprising led by the Ansarullah movement, and in that they miserably failed and as a matter of fact, it has led to a greater unity within Yemen against this outrageous outside bombing, interference, massive destruction.

Press TV: Why is it that the war on Yemen is very rarely reported in Western media?

Flounders: Because it has the complete support of the West. And the actions of Saudi Arabia could not continue for one minute, not one bombing...could take place without US technical, logistical, satellite support. Without US aircrafts that refuel Saudi jets in air, without the US-supported naval blockade of Yemen, none of this is possible, without the direct aid and participation from the US military and also its contractors and technicians and so on. And this support is why the UN acts as its hands are tied and is not taking any action at all despite the bombing of a country that in no way presented a threat to Saudi Arabia. That’s strictly an internal affair within Yemen and yet this massive bombardment campaign, loss of more than 4,000 lives already, and the poorest country in the region which has seen its civilian infrastructure just bombarded.

Press TV: Do you think this war could come to an end? Do you think it’s likely through diplomacy?

Flounders: Diplomacy must always be tried, but the only way the war will end is that Saudi Arabia stops the bombing. That’s where the war is coming from. That’s the whole basis of the war. And the only solution is for Saudi Arabia to end the bombing and...international pressure that also targets the US role. I think this is very important. But in the meantime, as Saudi Arabia themselves note, as many many international commentators say, this war has been totally unsuccessful for Saudi Arabia. And they have no way of backing it up, because they don’t dare put their own boots on the ground. They have a military that’s made up of mercenaries and contractors.
