Saudi soldier killed in Yemen retaliatory attack
At least one Saudi soldier has been killed and several more injured during attacks by Yemeni forces on Saudi military bases.
Yemeni forces launched the retaliatory attacks early Sunday in the southwestern regions of 'Asir, Najran and Jizan. According to reports, the Saudi soldier was killed during the attack on a military base in Dhahran Aljanoub, south of 'Asir region.
A Saudi tank was also destroyed early on Sunday in the attack against the al-Makhrogh base in Najran.
Yemeni troops, backed by popular forces, launch such attacks in retaliation for Saudi Arabia’s merciless airstrikes, carried out since March 26.
Meanwhile, Saudi jets attacked a military base in the capital Sana’a and bombed several regions in the central province of Ma'rib, and southwestern Ta’izz province.
Late on Saturday, at least 30 civilians were killed as Saudi warplanes bombed a market in Yemen’s northwestern Hajjah province.
At least one other civilian was also killed in a different airstrike in the Yemeni northwestern province of Sa'ada, where Saudi jets targeted a residential area in the Razih district.
Saudi Arabia’s attacks on its impoverished neighbor are carried out without authorization from the United Nations and regardless of international calls for the halting of the onslaught.
According to the UN, over 3,000 Yemenis have been killed and 14,000 more injured over the last three months since the Saudi aggression began with the main objective of weakening the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restoring power to its staunch ally, fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.
