Two American television news crews have been mugged at gunpoint during a live broadcast in San Francisco.

An armed robber stole camera equipment from the KNTV and KTVU crews on Thursday morning, leaving a cameraman injured, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

As KNTV’s photographer and reporter were about to go on air, a man pulled up to the curb in a black BMW, approached the photographer and pistol-whipped him with a gun.

The robber snatched the camera gear before fleeing in the car, which was driven by someone else.

"I thought I was going to hear a click," the photographer said afterward, meaning that he thought he was going to die.

As the robber left, he also snatched some of Fox affiliate KTVU's gear.

No shots were fired in the incidents, but an ammo magazine from a gun was left behind.

Neither of the news crews targeted by the armed robber was accompanied by security guards, police said.

The crews were covering the story of a 31-year-old woman, who had been shot in the same location a day earlier.

The woman was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, according to police.
