Militants kill three Shia Muslims in SW Pakistan
A group of heavily-armed militants has killed three Shia Muslims in Pakistan's troubled southwestern province of Balochistan.
Pakistani security sources said on Wednesday that the casualties were caused after attackers on motorcycle sprayed three Shia Muslim workers with bullets at a market in an area of Quetta, the provincial capital of restive Balochistan.
Local media reports said the militants managed to flee the scene before the arrival of security forces.
Meanwhile, people in Quetta have shut down businesses in protest against the recent deadly attack against Shia Muslims in the city.
The latest attack comes as several members of the Shia Hazara community have lost their lives in a series of attacks by unidentified attackers in recent days across the volatile region.
Pro-Taliban groups have been behind most of the attacks on Shia Muslims in various regions of Pakistan.
Quetta has seen several bomb and gun attacks over the past couple of years. Hundreds of Shia Muslims have been killed in militant attacks there.
Two separate attacks against the Shia Hazara community in the city killed more than 200 people in early 2013.
Also in mid-May, pistol-wielding militants slaughtered nearly 50 Ismaili Shia Muslims in the southern Pakistani port city of Karachi.
Pakistani Shia leaders have urged the Islamabad government to bring to justice those behind the ongoing bloodshed and targeted killings.
Meanwhile, Sunni groups have described the carnage of the Shia Muslims at the hands of the extremists as a conspiracy against the country.
International organizations and regional countries have also expressed serious concern over the killing of Shia Muslims across Pakistan.
